What to Expect
The Mountain State offers dynamic conditions, with cooler valleys and refreshing temperature shifts. Early hunting seasons often bring mild, comfortable weather, while later seasons provide crisp air and more varied conditions.
Hunting & Trapping Regulations
Regulations are easily accessible in an online, interactive format. Deer specific regulations will be published in early June 2026 for the 2026-27 season.

1.4 million acres, representing eight percent of the state's total land area are managed by the Wildlife Resources Section for public wildlife associate recreation.
Licensing Online
All hunters 15 and older are required to have a valid West Virginia hunting license. Options for online or in-person purchasing are available. A hunter education number must be recorded to place an order.
